Why? Because beauty treatments sell.

True self care is an important part of the healing process, and personally there is not a day that goes by that I don't practice some form of self care.

But what is the best form of self care for anxiety? Is there one? And how can I manage my anxiety through self care?

If you ask a random person on the street, they could probably name only a few self care types, if any.

What you will hear most is acts of self care which are the activities within the self care types. Like yoga, bubble baths, meditation, therapy, etc.

There are seven types of self care you need to know for anxiety relief.

Each self care type will help you treat a wide variety of anxiety symptoms ranging from fidgeting to panic attacks.

The best form of self care for anxiety is…. (drum roll please) the one that the is direct opposite of your anxiety symptoms.

Yes, ladies, there is NO best form of self care. They are all equal and important to anxiety self care.

Think about it. Surgeons don't put band-aids on bullet wounds. Women aren't lining up for prostate exams. And cats aren't chasing frisbees. -If your cat does, I want a video to add to my Happiness Pinterest Board please!-

Every problem can be solved with an appropriate solution. That is why there are so many types of self care for anxiety relief.

The best form of self care for anxiety is one that brings you back to a neutral state.

To get the most out of anxiety self care, you need to dig deep and figure out the what and why of your symptoms.

  • Are you nervous because you have to pee and it's an hour until the end of your meeting? That's physical self care.
  • Are you feeling unfulfilled, lost, and hating your current path in life? That's spiritual self care.

Knowing why your anxiety is occurring is just as important as what the self care type you choose to use to soothe it.

You cannot soothe what cannot be understood.

A calming technique for anxiety is a tool to disrupt the anxiety response in your amygdala to allow your nervous system to move past the autonomic “reset button aka panic mode” and allow you to process and react.

There are seven essential self care types for anxiety management.

To achieve true anxiety relief, you need to practice balancing your life using all the self care types.

For a panic attack, the best type of self care for anxiety is emotional. For emotional self care, you can use calming techniques to help your mind and body move past your stuck point and go back into a neutral state.

While pop-up anxiety can be managed with impromptu self care sessions, long term anxiety issues need to be addressed with a long term self care plan.

Anxiety management is not just a treatment here and there, but a lifestyle that you create to reduce stress, overcome fears, and learn about yourself to create less opportunity for anxiety to occur.
